An early interest in CB radio led to amateur radio in 2019. Rich passed his Technician and General exams that September and earned Amateur Extra in 2022. He enjoys radio nets, making contacts, and exchanging QSL cards.

02 / HOW IT STARTED
An interest in
how things fit.
A book called Blueprint Reading 2 caught Rich’s imagination as a kid. That fascination with drawings, along with an interest in drafting at school, eventually led him to mechanical design.
He earned an associate degree in Mechanical Design in 1991, then an associate degree in Plastics and Polymer Design through a work program in 2001. His interest in electronics stayed with him along the way.
Today, his projects range from custom radio equipment to furniture, with FDM and resin 3D printing among the tools he uses to bring ideas into the workshop.

The workshop is only part of the story.
From the garden
Gardening, growing hot peppers, and cooking come together in homemade hot sauces using ingredients from his own garden. Brewing and growing hops are part of his interests, too.
Out of the workshop
Rich’s interests also include photography, blues harmonica, and motorcycles—including a customized 1978½ FXS Shovelhead. He has also begun exploring leatherwork, from small everyday pieces to a hand-stitched belt.
